It was called “Perungaya Kal / idi Kal” some decades ago. People used to soak “Katti Perungayam”  ( Asafoetida cube ) in water on previous nights. It will be added to recipes being cooked at the following day. This product is made up of Black Stone which adds a unique taste to Tamil recipes.
